Todays’ episode reinforces the truth that you can indeed impact someone’s world.
David Reynolds: We all have the chance to lead, learn and change every day. These opportunities are often hidden in plain sight. We simply need to look for the lessons, consider the possibilities and take action. Lead, learn, change, in a moment.
Does the world need changing? Can you change it? While we share a common view of what it means when we say the world, when it comes to our world, that world is different person to person. I recently heard someone say, when discussing an extremely meaningful relationship, "To the world, I'm one person, but to one person, I'm the world." For many people, that place of prominence being the world to someone is filled by a spouse, child, parent, mentor, or dear friend. And of course, it could be someone else. In some instances, one individual occupies more than one of these roles at a time. A spouse can be a dear friend, for example, or a grandparent can be a mentor. And teachers and coaches, they often feel multiple world roles, perhaps more frequently than you might think.
So can you change the world? I think it's worth the effort to try. What if you find out that you can? You may have already done so for somebody else. Do it again for another person who needs your gifts, generosity, talents, and time. Reflect for a moment on the world-changing work and influence that you think is the most important. Was a group responsible? Who started the group that embraced that change? Who led it? Was it the leader or the first followers that really got things moving? Does the first follower sometimes turn into the leader? Is there somebody you admire that you can follow or emulate, and then in turn become a leader for someone else whose life can be changed because of your efforts? If you can be the world to one person, then you can indeed change the world.
Real progress is made one person at a time. World-changing work may appear to result from the collective, but each member of the movement is one person. One. One can make a difference for many. Go change the world. Moments matter, take notice, make a decision, impact others. Please subscribe to Lead. Learn. Change. and share this podcast with a family member, friend, or colleague.
